Overcomming the Creative Blues - Discover a Theme for Your Bathroom Design
Do you like this story?
So there you are staring at four blank walls at a lost as to where to begin. There are so many decisions to make when trying to decide how you want to design your bathroom. Where, oh where, do you begin? Stop banging your head against those walls and take charge of the situation. The answer is quite simple; you would begin by first developing a theme for your bathroom.
Why develop a theme?
A theme will give your room a general idea that you can focus on and expand on with details. A theme will also give your room coherence, style and a personality created by you. The only stipulation is that the theme of your bathroom should reflect your personality and reflect the interests of you and your family, other than that, the sky is pretty much the limit.
Common themes for the bathroom
Here are some common themes that can help get you started on some ideas for your bathroom design specific to your personality and interests. Some of these you may have heard of, while others may spark your interest and with a little research, you could soon have the bathroom of your dreams.
“Asian” theme – This theme involves small palms, Asian lettering and graphics, such as Geishas. Use a lot of bamboo and wood that come from the palms. Include mosaic type glass. Another thing that is really cool is etched glass that has natural scenes that are about Asia. This type of bathroom tends to be welcoming and relaxing.
“Rainforest” theme – This theme is a lot of fun and becoming more popular. Some ideas to get this theme started are to get bamboo flooring and bamboo wall covering. Then you can incorporate trimmings of wood and grains into your room. With this theme becoming more popular, you will be able to find window blinds, shower curtains, towels and many other accessories that have tropical prints, such as bright birds, trees and plants that live in the tropical rainforests.
“Under the Sea” theme – This theme is very popular in bathrooms and has been for some time now. It reflects scenes from under the sea. This theme is pretty simple to obtain because of its popularity, and there are tons of decorations available to create this type of style.
In order to create this scene for your bathroom, you would need to implement various shades of blue and green into the room. There are so many ways you can do this. You can paint the walls these colors, make sure the bathtub, sink and shower will fit in to the color scheme. You can accessorize with the many “under the sea” accessories available, such as shower curtains, sink sets, toilet coverings, rugs and towels.
“Zen” theme – This one is really cool. This theme is more of an elegant look. It focuses on balance and nature. This type of bathroom is where you would come to get away from the world, where you can feel relaxed and calm. This is where you would let the worries of the day drift away. You would want to use neutral and calming colors. The types of accessories you would use, you can get anywhere. Use candles and wicker baskets. Use a bamboo towel rack and toilet paper holders. The scent of the bathroom is what makes this bathroom distinctive. Put scented satchels around the bathtub, along with tropical plants. Consider putting a water resistant CD player with soothing sounds of nature to add to the nature of the room.
“Artistic” theme – This theme is so much fun and can literally be thrown together by anyone, even if you are less than artsy. All you have to do for this one is to mix abstract colors, patterns, shapes and artwork in any pattern or style you want. There is no right or wrong way for this one. This is why it is so much fun to create!
These are just five of the more popular themes. You don’t have to settle for any of these. Create your very own theme. Even someone who “thinks” they are not artistic enough can come up with their very own ideas. If it is your idea, and it fits your personality or interests, it will be the very best bathroom design for you!
